We are planning a workshop in Madison to discuss USCMS plans for R&D for the Trigger system for the SLHC. We would like to collect as many ideas as possible and to encourage wide participation in developing a vision of a new trigger system.

Therefore, if you wish to bring ideas of physics signals we should focus on, refinement of trigger primitives or new techniques of trigger processing to handle a luminosity of 10^35 and a crossing frequency of 12.5 ns, please consider attending. Dan Green has agreed to come and work with us on this project. The date is Friday, February 13. This is about two weeks before a proposed date for a CMS-wide workshop on the SLHC upgrade on February 26, 27 at CERN. We have also booked VRVS Earth/Desert in case the anticipated cold weather presents a deterrent.

Workshop Location, Friday, February 13, 2004:

4274 Chamberlin Hall, Department of Physics, University of Wisconsin

1150 University Ave., Madison, WI 53706 USA

Driving Directions:

Take Interstate 90 from Chicago to Madison via Rockford. Take exit 42 to Highways 12/18 going west toward Madison. It is the first Madison exit off of I-90 and it exits from the left lane. Proceed on Highways 12/18 approximately 6 miles until you reach the Highway 151/Park Street exit. Exit on Park Street and continue north on Park for approximately 2 miles (about 26 blocks) until you reach Johnson Street. Turn right onto Johnson Street. Continue on Johnson for 2 blocks, and then turn left onto Lake Street. Cross University Avenue and park at the State Street Campus Ramp (also known as the Lake Street Ramp). Exit the Lake Street Ramp and walk West on University Ave until you reach the gate on your right at N.Brooks Street. Turn right up the steps until the path ends at the campus road (Lathrop Drive then Lincoln Drive). Turn left and follow the road into the courtyard. Directly in front of you and next to a descending driveway, you will find a door at the base of a glass 4 story (visible) building. Enter this doorway, proceed up the steps 1.5 floors (past the first door), enter the second door. The HEP office will be the first door on the left across the corridor (4288 Chamberlin).

If you fly into Madison, we recommend that you take a cab to your accommodations (see below) and walk to the Physics Dept. in Chamberlin Hall.

Accomodations:

If you wish accomomdations you may contact Teresa Sherron at 608-262-2281 or fax at 608-263-0800 or sherron@hep.wisc.edu. We recommend staying at the The Lowell Inn and Conference Center:

If you wish, you may directly reserve a guest room at The Lowell Inn and Conference Center. Please call toll free 866-301-1753 or 608-256-2621. The fax number is 608-262-5445 or email at: lowell@ecc.uwex.edu. They have space now but are going to fill up soon so please reserve.

To reach Lowell Hall, follow Lake Street as above, but keep going past State Street and turn right on Langdon Street. Lowell Hall is located at the end of the block at the intersection with Frances. To reach their parking lot, turn left on Frances and then turn left into their lot and get a permit from the front desk. Here is a map:
