I highly doubt anyone has noticed the lack of posts to this blog lately(?) But I'm throwing this up anyway for my own sense comfort: 1) On November 1st 2006 I was saddled with the job of being the sysadmin for the whole Physics Dept. The previous sysadmin put together a, ah, rather unnecessarily complex and not-so-workable environment and thus it's, ah, consumed a lot of my time. 2) For the last month I've been plagued with an on-again-off-again "acute sinus infection" and to top it off I came down with the flu at 2300 hours December 31st 2006. Thank god for antibiotics and Pepto-Bismol!
Today we finished interviewing and reviewing the applicants for the new position. And I'm very happy to report we're offering the job to a extremely qualified guy: Will Maier. We all look foward do having him here full time.
Congratulations to Will Maier--he accepted the computer technician job today. He starts next week. I'm excited about having him on board.
I interviewed four students over the last few days. One candidate is particularly well qualified and has good interpersonal skills. I sent an offer of employment to Will Maier today. I spent tons of time dealing with student computer help in my previous previous job. Based on that experience, I think I got really lucky. I sure hope he takse the job.
I've been told to go hire a student, er, hardware guy (or gal!) The campus IT folks have a list of students who have taking a IT training/qualification program. That looks promising, but I'm not too hopeful because I've come to realize the list is very infrequently updated. At any rate, I wrote a quick perl script so today so I can spam the list announcing the position. Here's the description...
