and arrival time for the BMU.
- 12-February-2003 Width studies for the BSU,
looking for masked hits. I don't find much in the way of masked hits,
but do find pulses 2 and 3 times as long as usual, and a
set of slightly extended pulse lengths that come from the second pulse.

Muon Software Meeting. Report on trying to use 1999 cable timing for
wire to wire timing corrections.

triggered and untriggered scintillator timings.
- 28-May-2003 Comparison of IMU
software in different recent releases.
- 11-June-2003 Study of the toroid
position sensors. We have not yet calibrated these.
- 18-June-2003 Bob presents some
cross-section vs luminosity numbers for various triggers, and looks
at the effect of the trigger on crossing times.
- 6-August-2003 Bob's look at
matching between tracks and stubs, with emphasis on our own Z determination.
- 20-August-2003 Bob's look at
trigger bits vs Z.
- 10-September-2003 Bob's look at
high mass dimuons.
- 17-September-2003 More of Bob's look at
high mass dimuons, and crosstalk effects on the Z resolution. Dimuon Z
events seem to be worse than most, because they are so radial!
- 22-October-2003 I finished the
untangling of the IMU and CMX miniskirt geometries. I look at the
t0 variation of the front BSU counters, and find that the variation has
a sigma of 4 nsec or better--low statistics limit us.
- 29-October-2003 Working on Offline
shift, I've noticed some things about memory leaks in Production.
- 5-November-2003 Bob looked at the
BSU also, with more statistics. The distribution of hits with phi is
unusual, and not completely understood.

- 10-December-2003 More gverify, map
from GEANT 4-character names to CDF volume names.
- 28-January-2004More gverify, using
the new 5.3.1pre1 geometry. Something is wrong in the silicon geometry.
- 4-February-2004. Bob's plots for
efficiency using missing hits. Details of Geant daughter
volumes extending beyond their mothers. (There are only about 9 general
cases, but some appear many times.)
- 8-March-2004. Bob's plots for
dimuons.
- 5-April-2004. More of Bob's plots for
dimuons. My modifications to the stub-finding modules.

final quantity rates as a function of run number: another way of looking at
the trigger.
- 28-June-2004. Double-checking
GEANT's behavior.
- 6-July-2004. Trying to understand why
we have 4 times more 3-hit stubs in odd half-cells than in even.
- 12-July-2004. Do we have a bad
clock timing signal on one of the BSU TDCs?
- 19-July-2004. Do we have a bad
clock timing signal on another one of the BSU TDCs? There are
striking similarities and a curious difference. It turns out that
the east side TDCs were swapped out for a new version at about that time,
so we probably only had one bad TDC which went from east to west at that
time.
- 26-July-2004. With more statistics,
we see the same drift of t0 in all scintillator TDCs, and in the BMU wire
chambers as well (though with a smaller magnitude). Is this a problem with
the timing signals sent to the VME crates? If so, other groups should see
similar effects.
- 9-August-2004. Bob shows scintillator
times from Z decay events with no offset, caculated offsets, and corrected
offsets.
- 4-October-2004. Bob showed his Z
and W samples, and solicited help in figuring out why the W sample was so
poor. Calorimeter cuts?
- 11-October-2004. Progress on getting
luminosity dependence of various IMU rates. These will go into the (next line)
- summary document
- 1-November-2004. Bob shows drphi
and looks for forward/backward asymmetry--and finds that the background
is asymmetric also.
- 8-November-2004 Bob has plots of W
and J/psi candidates.
- 20-December-2004 Preon model results.
- 24-January-2005 Gverify results
for cdfsoft version 5.3.4, with special emphasis on SVX.
- 21-February-2005 Bob's trigger timing
work.
- 28-February-2005 Bob's trigger timing
work.
- 14-March-2005 GVerify talk for Tracking
meeting
- 21-March-2005 Bob's slides for trigger
efficiency using Z's.
- 28-March-2005 Bob's slides for
scintillator efficiency using Z's.
- 2-May-2005 I fixed a problem with
writing out scintillator hits associated with a stub.
- 16-May-2005 Bob has some work on
transverse Z distributions.
- 22-August-2005 Bob shows how
crosstalk varies with position along the wire for Z's. In a sense we're
designed to find crosstalk for the most interesting muons.
- 6-September-2005 Bob looked at
how to fix up the Z resolution by fixing up the delta-T with a cross-talk
correction fudge term. Improvement is better than .35 nsec, or about
15%.
- 3-October-2005 OpenOffice
presentation of a talk on observations in a universe with two macroscopic
time dimensions.
- 17-October-2005 I looked at the
search window required for using an other-Z-leg muon stub search to try
to find forward tracking efficiency.
- 7-November-2005 Bob has more plots on
the Z resolution.
- 14-November-2005 Bob has more plots on
the Z resolution. The bug in Z positioning in simulation is fixed.
- 21-November-2005 Bob looked at the wings
in the Z η distribution. The noise rates in IMU simulation now reflect
current rates from data (was .0175, now is from .138 to .192 depending on
layer).
- 28-November-2005 Bob looked at the
efficiency as a function of maximum COT radius of the track. He sees an
odd "island" at low radius--an artifact?
- 9-January-2006 Bob looked at
BMU stub-finding efficiency.
- 17-January-2006 Bob looked at
BMU stub-finding efficiency, requiring stronger fiducial cuts. He finds 98.4%.
- 20-March-2006 People have better Z
using stiff tracks--it is 10-12 cm farther out than I have it.
- 17-May-2006 The XFT 3-layer trigger
is gone. Can new mezzanine cards help us?
- 6-June-2006 The XFT 3-layer trigger
is gone. Can new mezzanine cards help us? Looking a minimum bias data.
- 12-June-2006 Bob shows plots on
a small drop in scintillator efficiency. I look further at what a new
algorithm would buy us in trigger rates.
- 20-July-2006 The new algorithm is
not quite as helpful as one would hope. The reduction in trigger rate
when we require the hadron TDC bits is less than 2 times the reduction
in good data rate. (We lose half the Z sample but get less than a factor
of 4 reduction in overall rate.)
- 28Aug2006Bob has more
work on backgrounds in Z's, looking at detector-specific stuff.
- 16Oct2006 Can we use
diagnostic plots to spot oscillations quickly and distinguish them from
spark-noise? Pierre says the most recent changes will go into the next
release, and we find that the scintillator/BMU t0 mismatch was fixed back
in 6.1.4int2.
- 23Oct2006 Can we find
problematic stacks with delta-T cuts, or will this give too many false
positives?
- 31Oct2006 Bob's plots
show that Jonathan's idea of reducing occupancy by setting the time window
to 1000 nsec is safe. Whether it will reduce readout time is another
issue.
- 08Nov2006 Another look
at oscillations. Since the 1000nsec cut is in place, the 800 nsec cut no
longer makes sense.
- 14Nov2006 Bob's hit and
width plots looking for the delta-T=40 spike.
- 16Jan2007 Varsha's talk,
and our comments. The Fermilab phone is not working right.
- 12Mar2007 The deficit
of 2-hit stubs reconstructed from simulation may be due to the BSU timing.
I have a fix.
- 11Jun2007 -17July Looking at
inefficiencies in MC reconstruction. Currently my estimate is 6.35%
inefficiency. Using 6.1.4 generation the inefficiency is
16.7%.
- 27Jun2008 Looking at alignment
again, using Chung's Z ntuples. There are noticeable misalignments.
- 29Jul2008 : Fix that corrects
delta-X in BMU ntuples.
- 04Aug2008 :
These slides are presented here for the use of CDF collaborators; both
for quick communication during phone conferences and for archival
purposes. They refer to internal development work, and are not
intended for publication to the general public. As of this date none
of our collaborators are blind, and since none but our
collaborators are likely to benefit from reading them, I see no
purpose in making the postscript files accessible to the blind.
