TransportationTaxiTaxi service in the Madison area is available from the following companies:
Via AirMadison is served by the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN), which serves more than 75 daily flights. Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Cincinnati are the major non-stop destinations serviced from Madison. Commercial air carriers that offer service from the Dane County Regional Airport include:
A taxi from the airport to the downtown/campus area is about a 15-20 minute ride (except during rush hour) and will cost around $15. If you are coming from outside the U.S. and have to buy a separate ticket to Madison, you might consider taking the bus from O'Hare airport in Chicago. Via Bus from Chicago/O'HareBusses between Madison and Chicago O'Hare/downtown Amtrak station are operated by the Van Galder Bus Co. They depart approximately every 30 to 90 minutes from International Terminal #5 (Lower Level, Exit 5E), and 30 minutes later from the Bus/Shuttle Center outside Terminals 1-3. The bus trip to Madison takes about 3.5 hours and costs $25 one way. It will drop you off at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St., 2 blocks from the Barnard Dorm, 420 N. Park Street. For information and the bus schedule, visit the Van Galder Bus Co. web site (http://www.vangalderbus.com) or call 800-747-0994, toll-free in the U.S. If you are traveling from Minneapolis, check the Greyhound Bus Co. web site (http://www.greyhound.com) or call Greyhound Bus (800-231-2222). Via Auto from FermilabWhile we highly discourage driving to Madison, here are directions from Fermi:
Barnard Hall is on the corner of University and Park Street, on your Right once you turn onto University Avenue. If you made parking arrangements ahead of time with the Secretariat, great, if not, there are two public parking ramps that charge by the hour available on Lake St. and are within a 5-minute walk to Barnard Hall Dormitory. On-street parking is very difficult to find on campus, and university parking lots requiring permits are closely patrolled, so public ramps are the way to go if you failed to make arrangements ahead of time. Vechicles may be left in public ramps for 48 hours before being ticketed and towed. Maps |
