Description of UWMadisonCMS OSG Site#

The UWMadisonCMS site provides access to several Condor pools on the UW campus. Some resources are purely opportunistic, for all OSG users, and others will be provided for dedicated use by CMS users, with opportunistic use provided to others.#

The purely opportunistic resources include GLOW (Grid Laboratories of Wisconsin), and the UW Computer Science Condor Pool. GLOW and CS provide several thousand opportunistic CPUs. The CMS dedicated resources in GLOW account for another several thousand CPUs. At this time, all systems are running a RHEL compatible Linux installation (Scientific Linux).#

In addition to CPUs, an SRM storage interface is provided. This is a HDFS disk cluster which replicates data between commodity servers. The amount of space that is available for OSG use is not yet well defined. Users should not expect to use more than a few hundred GBs without coordinating with the site contacts. In the future better storage management systems will allow these sort of arrangements to be done more formally.#

Since the Condor pools on the UW campus are in several different administrative domains, we are using AFS to provide shared disk space for applications that need it. Once again, users who require more than a few hundred GBs should coordinate with site contacts. Any data files that are older than 30 days may be cleaned off automatically in order to conserve space.#
