Via Air

Madison is served by the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN), which serves more than 75 daily flights. Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Detroit, and Cincinnati are the major non-stop destinations serviced from Madison. Commercial air carriers that offer service from the Dane County Regional Airport include:

A taxi from the airport to the downtown/campus area is about a 15-20 minute ride (except during rush hour) and will cost around $25. If you are coming from outside the U.S. and have to buy a separate ticket to Madison, you might consider taking the bus from O'Hare airport in Chicago.

Via Bus from Chicago/O'Hare

Busses between Madison and Chicago O'Hare/downtown Amtrak station are operated by the Van Galder Bus Co. They depart approximately every 60 to 120 minutes from International Terminal #5 (Lower Level, Exit 5E). The bus trip to Madison takes about 3.5 hours and costs $27 one way. It will drop you off at the Memorial Union, 800 Langdon St.

Here are directions from Fermi:

Take I-88 Tollway west from FNAL. Merge onto I-39 North towards ROCKFORD. Near Rockford, take tie I-90 W exit towards WISCONSIN. Later, take the 18/12 (exit 142A on the LEFT) towards MADISON. Take the PARK ST exit (261B)and head towards the right on PARK ST. About 4 miles later turn right onto JOHNSON ST and get immediately to the left side of the one-way street. Make a Left on LAKE ST, Cross UNIVERSITY and

To walk from your lodging at the Concourse to Monona Terrace is a short, nice walk up State Street. Here is a map: Link to a google map: Google Map of Hotels to Monona Terrace

2. If you are coming just for the day on your right will be the State Street Ramp parking garage: Park here. On foot go left onto LAKE ST and then right on UNIVERSITY AVE. Walk West on University Avenue until you get to Chamberlin Hall (Corner of University Avenue and Charter Street).

If you wish to visit the Physics Building while you are here: To walk to Physics from any of the Conference Lodging sites, you can walk up State to PARK ST. Cross Park and head up LATHROP DR. After going over a hill and passing the botany greenhouse on your right, this ends up in the courtyard for Chamberlin and Sterling Hall, which has telescopes on the roof, and there are bicycle racks in the courtyard. Enter by the stairway that sits in the North corner.
